Oral History Project
Winners of Two National Awards
Community Archives & Heritage Awards 2018 -Winners Plymouth based 100 Homes Oral History Project have been announced as the Best Community Archive and Heritage Group of 2018
The 100 Homes Oral History Project was created via the Stonehouse Timebank. The residents of Stonehouse wanted to record the stories of the people living in the area both past and present, dating back to when the three towns of Stonehouse, Plymouth & Devonport first joined.
The genesis of this idea came as part of the celebrations surrounding the joining of the three towns,
The main focus of the project is to record the stories of the residents. We are covering such themes as Migration, Union Street, World War 2 and Post War Regeneration period. Though these are our main themes we would also like to collect any story and history related to the area and engage with the community of Stonehouse
This Project is Funded by Heritage Lottery

100 Homes Featured in Her Voices
The Media Workshop
Her Voices is a new immersive event in Barbican’s Elizabethan Gardens,
inviting visitors to “eavesdrop” on rarely-told women’s stories from across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall. Participants journey through a delicate display of fibre optics and LEDs providing an ephemeral physicality to voices rising from hidden speakers around the gardens.
The installation features recordings celebrating both women’s great achievements and inequalities still apparent today. Voices range from Plymouth’s Lady Nancy Astor, the first female sitting MP to Cornish fishworkers and North Devon farmers. It is a meditation on who we are, how we got here and where we are going.
Her Voices is part of Plymouth Illuminate 2019 which runs from 28th Nov - 1st Dec
Her Voices is supported by:
